areas of expertise

Presenting & Training

I’m a dynamic and engaging public speaker, comfortable in working closely with small groups or providing a keynote to an audience of 300+. Throughout my career, I’ve facilitated learning with social workers, therapists, law enforcement, campus administrators, district attorneys, attorneys, crime investigators, and medical professionals. I provide educational content, focusing on interpersonal violence & vicarious trauma, utilizing both didactic and experiential techniques. I’m a Senior Lecturer at the Columbia School of Social Work, instructing graduate-level coursework; and have taught at the Institute for Contemporary Psychotherapy, John Jay College of Criminal Justice, and The Training Institute for Mental Health.

expert witness testimony

Throughout my career, I’ve worked with survivors of interpersonal violence in a variety of settings. I can provide expert witness testimony in the areas of domestic violence, sexual violence, interpersonal violence and trauma. I am particularly effective at providing information about the impact of trauma on behavior, and using my training in brain science to explain reactions to violence.

writing and media

I have experience in writing curriculum, presentations, guidance documents and discussion guides. I’ve provided writing feedback and editing on journal articles. I’ve worked on social media campaigns and have thoughtful input on how to focus messaging and increase audience and reach. I’ve completed media training, and understand how powerful narrative can be to effect social change.

supervision & case consultation

I offer supervision for social workers who wish to expand their skills. Supervision is tailored to individual needs, and focuses on development of stabilization skills and integration of trauma treatment modalities, including mind-body work. All supervision includes the examination of the impact of trauma work on the provider, and discussion about boundaries and self-care. I also offer case consultation with colleagues. My professional experience includes expertise in the clinical presentations that people impacted by interpersonal trauma demonstrate. Supporting and guiding professionals who work with trauma is one of the great joys of my career.

psychotherapy

Throughout my career, I’ve worked with and walked alongside people who are healing from trauma. My degree at Columbia focused on clinical social work with contemporary social issues, and I’ve completed post-graduate training in the neurobiology of trauma and related treatment modalities. My practice includes deep knowledge of the impact of trauma on functioning. My role is grounded with the unshakable belief that we are all wired for healing. I especially enjoy supporting folks who work with trauma.

social impact & social justice

I maintain a professional & ethical commitment to upending systems of oppression and advancing social justice. Throughout my career I’ve worked to increase awareness of the dynamics that contribute to interpersonal violence, and to demonstrate how sexism, patriarchy, and racism intersect contribute to deepen impacts. I’ve worked closely with social justice and awareness campaigns to change the dialogues that we have about interpersonal violence.

program creation and development

I’ve worked with several agencies to start programs that help survivors. At Safe Horizon I developed the Sexual Assault Treatment Program at the Brooklyn Community Program Office. At the New York City Alliance Against Sexual Assault I created the Alliance for Advocacy, a direct service program that provides counseling and advocacy services to survivors of sexual violence. I’ve provided guidance and support to various agencies who work with interpersonal violence, improving their intervention services and enhancing the skills of their employees.
